"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

But this is
also regarded as a one-to-one communication style. Exhibit 14.15 illustrates such a scenario. An
intraday report download is performed by the business archive service to an awaiting consumer.
Note the originating activity connector and the end-of-activity indicator that describe the one-step
activity.
One-to-Many. A one-to-many activity pattern is formed when a message originator??”a service
or a consumer??”sends requests to multiple constituents. Thus, the initiating party is typically
engaged in a bidirectional or unidirectional relationship with its consumer or peer services. This
interaction is akin to the known service facade pattern, in which a centralized service proxy
coordinates message delivery tasks. A facade implementation not only hides the execution of
the participating services positioned behind the scenes but offers exclusive access to the outside
consumer world.
Exhibit 14.16 illustrates three sequential activities that collaboratively assist with a company??™s
deposit history information in an archive. The proxy atomic service is the coordinating
entity involved in a one-to-many message interaction with its three constituents: company quote
atomic service, company business state atomic service, and the business history service. Note that
the entities that take part in this process are aggregated into the archive composite service, as
seen in the service aggregator panel (on the upper left).
