"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

20. The account statement service
cluster, which is made of the same five services, offers account balances for the credit-card and
equity investments accounts. Note that this transaction is made up of two activity sections, each
of which represents a different branch of tree hierarchy. The left branch represents the credit card
balances, and the right depicts the investment account balances.
Network Transaction. Remember, the many-to-many service relationship is the fundamental
concept that the network logical design composition style is based on. Transaction activities that
capitalize on this style are typically designed to connect distributed entities that reside in one
business domain, various business domains, geographic locations, or lines of business. Hence,
to model a transaction that leverages a network composition, it is important to first analyze the
required various network connections between services and consumers.
The absence of strategies to drive design, architecture, construction, and deployment projects
typically results in unmanaged service environments. On the surface, a network logical design composition
seems to be a byproduct of such a service landscape, in which participating services are
linked by ad hoc and tactical decisions. But this should not be the case. Transaction planning should
be rooted in formal logical design composition styles as opposed to developing ???organically??? grown
service network connections.
