that architecture is typically a byproduct of two major aspects: (1) business and technological
requirements that commend solutions to arising problems and (2) an organization??™s existing technological
condition and configuration. Rarely are architectural solutions proposed that do not
depend on existing service-oriented software assets, such as services, applications, infrastructure,
middleware, and operating systems. This scenario, however, may occur when a new business
product is introduced or in fast-growing enterprises where the technological environment is still
expanding into new territories.
Architecture, whether newly introduced or influenced by existing technological landscapes,
is always the fundamental driving force behind an organization??™s technical strategies. Conceptual
architecture must reflect these essential and bidirectional influences. To communicate this
dependency, architectural concepts are positioned on top of the technological environment layer.
