The top-down modeling method is well-suited for
new business initiatives or projects during which a new service life cycle begins. This process
starts at the service conceptualization phase, continues through the service analysis and design
process, and finally leads to the establishment of new architectural concepts. So, where specifically
do the new architectural concepts originate from? The top-down architecture conceptualization
approach advocates that concepts be based on the service-oriented design phase packaged deliverables
(discussed in Chapter 13). Once the discovered architectural concepts are in place, identify
the service-oriented assets, such as infrastructure, middleware, services, and legacy applications
that can provide a solution.
Bottom-Up Architecture Conceptualization. The bottom-up approach is well suited for initiatives
that require eliciting abstractions from existing packaged technological assets. In other
words, deriving architectural concepts of the currently operating infrastructure, applications, middleware,
and services. This process may be necessary when accommodating requirements for
functionality modification of existing service-oriented assets, optimizing the reusability aspect of
your deployed assets, or even matching third-party vendors??™ products to the current technological
environment.

conceptualization example.
