This index reveals the major players in the problem-solving exercise and offers a high-level
glimpse at service offerings and the type of activities they are engaged with. Exhibit 16.11
illustrates this concept. The depicted transaction directory diagram has two major sections. The
first, the top segment, is dedicated to the various business or technological processes that a
solution offers. Remember, this space is merely allocated for high-level processes. Note that the
process icon is used to denote a business function. The second, the bottom section, accommodates
technological assets responsible for the execution of the various processes. It is known as the
asset directory.
Exhibit 16.11 provides a transactional view of a trading processing environment. The
depicted four technological assets??”fixed-income, equity, mutual fund, and customer support
packaged solution services??”are positioned in the asset directory section, each of which is also
responsible for executing its corresponding business processes positioned in the transaction index
section. Note that there is no particular sequence or logic flow to the execution of the various
